I would like to thank you for the lovely time we had in the East Midlands on the familiarisation weekend. Like a lot of people who have been around the world and back again, we don’t realise what beauty and enchantment there is virtually in our own back yards. In this instance the lovely shires of Leicester, Lincoln and Nottingham. The splendour of the castles, the scenic beauty of the countryside and charm of such places as Oakham and Stamford. It shows how wonderful lots of places in the British Isles are …
… Rutland Water and church were a revelation as were the lovely Burghley House and the medieval banquet at Bosworth Battlefield (what a fun evening that was). Then there was the pageant at Nottingham Castle, the visit to Belvoir Castle with Stephen’s pork pie demonstration, the train ride and then, on our way home, our visit to Rockingham Castle and the lovely tour and the warm welcome we had there and at all the places we visited.
It was a wonderful, magical weekend although quite tiring … but I wouldn’t have missed it for the world.
