Malta is magnificent for groups
More and more of our customers are opting to take their groups on holidays abroad. We cater for a wide range of overseas destinations – in continental Europe and further afield. One of our customers, David Weekes, has recently returned with his party from an eight-day holiday in Malta that proved “very popular”. We caught up with him to find out more.
The Chairman of the Probus Club of Loughton in Essex, David Weekes, thoroughly recommends Malta as a group holiday destination. David and his wife, Pamela, visited Malta in early May along with other Probus club members and relatives.
The party of 28 flew out from Luton Airport and checked in at the four-star Park Hotel at Malta’s leading resort, Sliema, for their seven-night stay.
“The hotel was just two minutes’ walk from the seafront promenade which was lovely for an evening stroll and for our free day. There was also a frequent and very cheap bus service into Valetta,” said David.
The modern hotel offers international cuisine and David’s group began each day with a full English breakfast. In the evening they dined in a part of the restaurant that was especially reserved for them.
“Airedale Tours organised our excursions and these were extremely well-received. Airedale also organised for us to have a superb official guide, Amy, who went with us on all the excursions. She was a very knowledgeable lady,” said David.
The excursions included a guided tour of historic Valetta and a cruise around its natural harbours. David’s party learnt about the famous Knights of Malta and visited ancient temples on Malta and the neighbouring island of Gozo.
Said David: “Malta reeks of history and offers magnificent churches and archaeological treasures. It also has a magnificent coastline. We visited the spectacular Blue Grotto caves in the limestone cliffs where the sea sparkled in changing shades of blue and was beautifully clear. Gozo is a much greener island than Malta and we had a lovely day there.”
Quality shopping in Valetta and sunshine throughout the week also added to the success of the holiday. Said David: “At our monthly lunch on our return, four couples wrote about their impressions of the holiday and they were very, very favourable.”
The Malta holiday is the third group holiday that David’s club has organised with Airedale Tours. The previous holidays were to Chester and Glasgow in the UK.
Said David: “I can’t praise Airedale highly enough. They are very efficient and charming people. I wouldn’t have organised this holiday by myself. Why do that when there’s a reliable firm like Airedale that knows the group travel business?”
