Andalucia - A Melting Pot of Spanish and Moorish Architecture, Culture and Cuisine

Andalucia is extrodinarily rich in beauty with its whitewashed hill towns, or pueblos blancos, picturesque scenery, wildlife, history, incredible architecture, and a fusion of Moorish and Spanish culture and cuisine. We stay in Seville and Granada and visit Ronda, Cordoba, Jerez de la Frontera and the majestic Alpujarra area of Sierra Nevada

Itinerary/Excursions

Ronda

Transfer to the airport for your flight to Malaga. On arrival you will be met by your tour manager and travel to Ronda a remarkable hilltop city, set dramatically above the deep gorge of El Tajo, separating the new town, circa 15th century, from its old town, dating back from Moorish rule. Puente Nuevo, the iconic stone bridge, spans the gorge. Here, you will have a guided tour which includes the Plaza de Torros or 'Bullring', the oldest bullring in Spain constructed entirely of stone. Continue to Seville where you will spend the next 3 nights at the centrally located Hotel Don Paco 3*. Dinner at the hotel

Seville

The capital and largest city in Andalucía. Seductive, charismatic, lively and very beautiful, its narrow streets a hive of activity. A guided walking tour of Seville includes the Plaza De España, situated in the lovely Parque de Maria Luisa, the colossal Gothic Cathedral and the Real Alcazar Palace and the Santa Cruz district, the old jewish quarter, and the Torro del Oro, Tower of Gold, situated on the Guadalquivir River. Free afternoon. Dinner at the hotel  

Jerez de la Frontera

Excursion to Jerez de la Frontera, often overlooked, it is one of southern Spain's most beautiful yet less touristy destinations. Famous for its horses, where some of the finest horses in the world are bred and trained, its sherry, is the only place on earth where the drink is made from palomino grapes that grow in the loose, chalky soil and flamenco. Jerez Horse Show and Sherry Bodega  to watch the spectacular equestrian ballet display “How the Andalusian Horses Dance" show at the Royal Andalucian School of Equestrian Art, one of the finest horse shows in the world where the horses literally dance to flamenco music. In the afternoon you will visit one of the traditional sherry wine Bodegas, the product that brought prosperity to this area, with tastings. Diine at a local restaurant in Seville.

Cordoba

Today en-route to Granada we visit the beautiful city of Cordoba. A guided tour will take you around the wonderful quiet residential streets brimming with flower displays and plants on the patios. A lovely riverside and the splendid Roman bridge offering some of the best views of Cordoba. Entry to the magnificent Mezquita, one of the world’s greatest works of Islamic architecture, it is almost impossible to overemphasize its beauty. Construction began in 784 with extensions added in later centuries the interior construction quite revolutionary for its time. We continue to Granada where you will stay for 3 nights at the centrally located 4* Hotel Tent 

Granada & the Alhambra Palace

We have a morning walking tour of the centre of Granada and an afternoon guided tour and entry to the Generalife, a leisure palace for the kings of Granada when they wanted to get away from the official affairs of the palace. We also have a guided tour of of the Alhambra , a complex of medieval and Renaissance residential palaces and courtyards wrapped within a fortressc a 13th century walled city within sight of the Sierra Nevada mountain range. Alhambra became a city complete with communal baths, cemeteries, places for prayer and gardens. Its iconic architecture is characterised by stunning frescoes, decorated columns and arches and highly ornamented walls. 

Las Alpujarras

A full day excursion to the Alpujarra area of the Sierra Nevada. Las Alpujarras clings to the southern flanks of the Sierra Nevada, deep, sheltered valleys and gorges which run down to the Mediterranean. There are around 50 picturesque villages, perhaps the prettiest being the famous trio on the slopes of the Poquiera Valley - Capileira, Bubión and Pampaneira, bustling with craft shops and restaurants. The excursion includes tapas lunch and visit to a cured ham bodega with tastings and local wine tasting. Dine at a local Andalucian restaurant.
