Celebrating English Tourism Week: A Visit to The Hepworth Wakefield

English Tourism Week is the perfect opportunity to celebrate the incredible places that make our country special. For me, that place is The Hepworth Wakefield—a true cultural gem in Yorkshire and one of my favorite spots to visit.

For those who haven’t been, The Hepworth is a stunning art gallery on the banks of the River Calder, dedicated to modern and contemporary art. Named after the famous sculptor Barbara Hepworth, who was born in Wakefield, the gallery showcases her incredible work alongside pieces from renowned artists from around the world. Designed by architect David Chipperfield, the building itself is a work of art, with its bold geometric structure creating a striking contrast against the natural beauty of its surroundings.

Beyond the exhibitions, The Hepworth is a peaceful retreat from the everyday rush. There’s always something new and inspiring to see, whether it’s sculptures, paintings, or interactive installations. One of my favorite places to unwind is the café—it serves fantastic food and coffee, and I always find myself indulging in a few sweet treats (as well as a little too much shopping in the gift store!).

Another highlight is The Hepworth Wakefield Garden, a beautifully designed outdoor space that adds to the gallery’s charm. It’s the perfect place to relax and reflect, no matter the season. Throughout the year, The Hepworth also hosts a variety of fairs, from craft markets to seasonal events, which I absolutely love attending.

As a Wakefield resisdent, The Hepworth is free to enter making it an accessible and welcoming space for all. I always make sure to donate when I visit, knowing that every little bit helps keep this wonderful place thriving.

So, if you're looking for somewhere to explore during English Tourism Week, The Hepworth Wakefield is a must-visit. Whether you’re an art lover or just looking for a peaceful day out, it’s a place that never disappoints.
